We were then woken up again the same night at 6:00 - short nights for sure. The staff was kind and managed to reduce the noise when we called them after having been woken up at midnight by someone using the gym, but it’s very uncomfortable if you need to call the front desk every night. The correct way, however, would be to simply stop giving this room, as it doesn’t fit the main purpose of a room: sleep. The hotel is big, and has enough rooms, very unsure why they decided to add a room there, and the bare minimum would be to warn the guests at reservation / check-in, and to sell it at a very low price. But I highly doubt that even with the best earplugs on the market you can do anything to sleep/stay asleep when someone drops weights next to your head. Other inconveniences of the room such as the fact that you don’t see the sky from the window (massive wall in front) or that you very clearly hear all the noises from the hallway (it’s also in front of the lift and next to the pool), can be dealt with. This means that you get woken up by massive bangs that make your bed shakes (the bed is very smartly located on the wall shared with the gym). We had the room number 601, which is neighboring to the 24/7 gym. However, the location of the room within the hotel made our stay a terrible one. The hotel is well located, and the room was very clean. It fit the needs I had for this visit.…ĭisaster: the whole point of a hotel is to sleep, and don’t count on that if you’re given room 601. All in all, it was a clean, nicely situated hotel with friendly service and a decent price. There is a pool at this hotel, but I did not use it as I was staying for work. Once you get there, you will find an array of luxury stores, restaurants and a movie theater. For reference, it’s about a half a mile away. To be fair, I would not advise walking during the day either because it’s just far enough that you may melt on the way there. However, I would not advise walking from there at night because the area is not quite as gentrified outside the 4 blocks of the City Centre. It’s not too far from Brickell City Centre. I can’t attest to the vicinity as I drove everywhere. Luckily, it was not a party hotel like South Beach. At times, I heard other visitors in the hallway. The bed was comfortable and the products in the bathroom area were lovely. They promptly fixed that and delivered some. I needed caffeinated capsules as the capsules had not been refilled and I only had non-caffeinated. The room was clean and had nice amenities like a refrigerator and capsule coffee machine. I did not eat there, but the patrons that did loved their meals. I had a complimentary drink at the restaurant/bar, Mosaic, and it was lovely. Eddy (I believe was his name) was eager to help and gave great restaurant suggestions and assistance. They were pretty quick to retrieve the car, which was a plus. There is convenient valet service, albeit for a charge. The hotel was easy enough to find and was a relatively quick drive from the airport area (where my conference was being held). I have never stayed in the Brickell area before, but I wanted to try it this time to avoid South Beach. It’s a decision that makes sense if you’ve got a single-window interface, but I don’t use my Mac in full screen mode and I didn’t mind the popover approach that iTunes took with those windows. Up Next and Lyrics panes now slide out over the interface, obscuring what’s behind-essentially the inverse of the old drawer metaphor in the early days of Mac OS X. Music feels like a version of iTunes that’s been heavily influenced by Apple’s decisions on iOS. The Music app is based on iTunes but brings features (like an interface-eclipsing slide-in panel) from iOS. While the broad strokes of the change are pretty much what anyone might have guessed, the details are interesting: the Music and TV apps appear to be built out of the code of iTunes, while the pioneering implementation of podcast browsing from 2005 has been put out to pasture, replaced by a new Podcasts app sourced from iOS and brought to the Mac via Catalyst.ĭespite being sourced largely from iTunes, the Music and TV apps have been given a new coat of paint, with more colorful sidebars-and the Podcasts app has been designed to match, giving the three media apps a consistency that might surprise you if you think that apps built via Catalyst won’t feel the same as apps built explicitly for macOS. With macOS Catalina, the separation has arrived. The writing has been on the wall for the monolithic Mac iTunes app for a few years now: Apple’s strategy on iOS (where iTunes’s features have been served by separate Music, Podcasts, and video apps for years) set the course. iTunes becomes Music, Podcasts, and Apple TV (and Finder?) And never work with data that you aren’t also backing up somewhere else. Don’t install this on your main Mac’s main hard drive-either use a secondary computer or a separate partition or an external drive. And if you’re up for the challenge you can help.īefore you run to install the beta, some final words of advice: Consider if you really want to go down this path. Things will change and improve over the summer. Users of Apple betas should use the Feedback Assistant app to let Apple know if things just aren’t working right. With any luck, many of them will be smoothed out by this fall-though I fear that at least some of them are poor decisions on Apple’s part that we’ll be living with for longer than this summer.Īnd this is a key point of being on the public-beta train: using the Feedback Assistant app to tell Apple about bad stuff you see, and things you don’t like. We are headed in to a future with more unified apps and interfaces and an increased security focus.Īs for the present, Catalina definitely has its bumps. But for now, the public beta of Catalina shows the direction Apple is taking the Mac and all its platforms. With this much going on, it’s not surprising that most people should generally not upgrade to the public beta it’s a work in progress that will be officially released sometime this fall. Photos gets a new machine-learning-driven facelift, and many of Apple’s other apps-including Mail, Safari, Notes, and most especially Reminders-have gotten upgrades. There are also major new additions to parental controls and device management, a huge upgrade to accessibility, the ability to use an iPad as an additional display and input device, and a raft of new security and privacy features. iTunes is being broken into individual applications, including Music, Podcasts, and TV, with a small piece being spun into the Finder. This begins the era of third-party developers bringing their iPad apps to the Mac for the first time-and Apple’s bringing a few iOS apps of its own to the Mac as well. There’s a lot going on in macOS Catalina, version 10.15 of the software that runs the Mac, which arrives today with its first Public Beta release. In the weeks after being released, the album fell first to number 5, then number 9, number 15, and number 24, before resting at number 40 in the charts. The album was the first chart topping album for both the band and their label, Domino Recording Company, in the UK. "The Fallen" was used by the NFL on Fox for promos during the 2011 NFL season. Four years was the typical length of a parliament before five-year fixed term legislation was passed in 2011. "Number ten" here refers to 10 Downing Street, the address of the UK Prime Minister. The song contains the lyric: I'd no idea that in four years I'd be hanging from a beam behind the door of number ten, singing "fare thee well, I am leaving, yes I leave it all to you". The song "You're the Reason I'm Leaving" is believed to be a dual-meaning track it can be read as a typical relationship-centered song, but also as being a lighthearted political commentary on the rivalry between former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and former UK Prime Minister (then- Chancellor of the Exchequer) Gordon Brown. In particular, the cover image is a direct copy of Rodchenko's of Lilya Brik. The album's cover art is inspired by the works of Alexander Rodchenko, the Russian avant-garde photographer and collage pioneer. Then we started laughing when we realized that the album hadn't been manufactured yet and we could change it after all." The title was also initially reported as the lengthy You Could Have It So Much Better. We talked about how we liked that idea a lot and that it was a real shame that the album wasn't going to have a title. First, they revealed that the title Outsiders was considered before the current title was decided upon.Īs drummer Paul Thomson explained, "I was thinking something similar, but that 'You Could Have It So Much Better' would have been even greater. However, on 1 August it was revealed that the band had changed their minds and decided to give the album a name. At one level they looked good together, and they capture the mood of this record quite well." We experimented with different combinations of colours and this one stuck. The contrast of different colours creates a different mood. He added, "The albums are going to be identified by their colour schemes rather than a title. We decided quite a while ago that we didn't want to give any of the albums titles, they were just going to be called 'Franz Ferdinand'." Singer Alex Kapranos explained, "The whole point is that the album doesn't have a title. Initially it was reported that the album would simply be eponymous like the debut album, 2004's Franz Ferdinand. It was produced by Rich Costey and Franz Ferdinand. The cover design is modeled on Alexander Rodchenko's 1924 portrait of Lilya Brik. The album became the band's first UK number-one album, and although their debut album was relatively successful in the United States, going platinum and reaching number 32, You Could Have It So Much Better managed to reach number 8 and earn gold status in the United States. Recorded in both New York City and their own studio in Glasgow with producer Rich Costey, the album spawned four UK top 30 singles: " Do You Want To", " The Fallen", " Walk Away" and " Eleanor Put Your Boots On." It was first released on 28 September 2005 in Japan, and later on 3 October in the UK, through the Domino Recording Company. You Could Have It So Much Better is the second studio album by Scottish indie rock band Franz Ferdinand. When completing the mission, you’ll get a choice from the parts that every person on your team has opened up. One interesting thing to consider is running Void Fissure missions with other players running with a full party is highly recommended. As soon as you pick up ten Reactants, your Relic will crack open, so finish up the mission to see what’s inside. It’s pretty obvious when it happens, so kill them for a chance to drop Reactant. Certain enemies go invulnerable for a moment before emitting a shimmering glow. Once you've entered the mission, it’s time to open them up. As you’d expect, Lith Void Fissure missions are lower level missions, while Axi are much higher. Load up the Navigation page, hit the Void Fissure tab, selecting the mission you want to run. Now that you know what you’re aiming for, it’s time to run the aforementioned Void Fissure missions. You’ll end up with a decent chunk of them, but can only hold a certain amount, so be sure to spend them on the Relics you really want to pay off for you. Void Traces drop from running Void Fissure missions, just in case you were wondering. Obtaining Void Traces in Void Fissure missions By spending some Void Traces on “refining” them, you can increase the chances of an uncommon or rare drop, which may be necessary for nabbing the part you want. Assuming the Relic is unrefined, the common items are vastly more likely to drop than the higher rarities. Every Relic has a loot table of three common items, two uncommon items, and one rare item. Once you’ve gotten your hands on some Relics, head into the Relics page in your inventory and take a look at the items they have a chance to drop. On lower level missions, you’ll find Lith Relics, then in ascending order of levels, Meso, Neo, and finally, Axi. I'd personally recommend Defence, Excavation, or Survival as these are simpler to understand and take to higher levels. Look for Defence, Excavation, Survival, Interception, and Defection missions for types you can run endlessly. For the most part, you’ll be getting Relics by running so-called “endless” missions. To get more of each type of Relic, you’re going to have to know where to go to get the Relics you need. Since the game does a terrible job at reminding you of what you have already, you're going to have to manually track it. Try to have a spreadsheet, notepad, or something else to keep track of all your Relics, including which ones you need to complete the chosen Prime gear. You’ll more than likely have to open multiple Void Relics to find the part you want. Each of those relics has a chance to drop the part you want, but it’s by no means a guarantee you'll find what you want. For the most part, you’re going to find them by running missions, but if you’re looking for specific Prime parts, you’re going to need to find specific Relics. Your first step is to find yourself a few Relics in the first place. Void Relics are items that drop Prime parts and Formas upon being unlocked via Void Fissure missions. Things get complicated when you try to understand them. The four types of relics (Lith, Meso, Neo, and Axi) all have different drop tables. To get Prime parts, you’re going to have to go through the long process of farming Relics. That means, of course, they’re going to be the hardest to get. Prime Warframes and Weapons are some of the most powerful tools in a Warframe player’s arsenal. This guide will be going over the basics of Void Relics, obtaining the resources needed to craft the blueprints within, and a list of every single Prime that's available in the game at this time. "But hang on," you may be thinking, "I still need more information about the basics!" Well we have you covered there too - just go to our main Warframe guide for everything else you need to know about this surprisingly complex free-to-play shooter. But just what are Primes? In this guide to Warframe Prime Relics, we will show you how to get the best gear, as well as the conditions for crafting them and even a list of the currently available Primes - because we're really nice like that! Did you ever get the feeling that your regular Warframe gear is lacking that bit of oomph? Mutterings throughout the solar system about coveted "Primes" You've probably heard about some more epic equipment that everyone else is hunting for called "Primes". These loans are secured by collateral and have a long, well-documented history of protecting lenders when they default, with recoveries averaging 70-75%. The assets that are the "raw material" from which CLOs are constructed are senior, secured floating-rate term loans to non-investment grade corporations. But equity owners also absorb all the losses from borrowers who default and fail to pay, which is where things get interesting. Whether a bank or a CLO, the equity owners at the bottom of the balance sheet get all the excess spread between (1) the interest received on the loan assets, and (2) the interest, at a lower rate, paid out to depositors or creditors. The key to making money, for both banks and CLOs, is (1) to have as big a spread as possible between the interest rate you collect on your loan portfolio, and the rate you pay on your bank deposits or CLO borrowings, and (2) to leverage that borrowing as much as you prudently can, so you can collect the spread multiple times. Buying the equity in a CLO is like buying the stock of a bank, where the CLO/bank acquires a portfolio of loans that pay an interest rate (perhaps 5% or so), using funds that include (1) its own equity capital, and (2) money borrowed from investors (in the case of a CLO), or taken as deposits (in the case of a bank). For those who don't, we have this article.ĬLOs are virtual banks. Mythical and overly simplistic as that maxim may be, there's a germ of truth in it and anyone who truly "gets it" will understand immediately how Collateralized Loan Obligations (CLOs) work. Many years ago there was an adage about bankers that they lived and worked according to the "3-6-3 rule." They paid their customers 3% on their deposits, loaned the money out at 6%, and were on the golf course by 3:00 pm. If parts of this article seem familiar, it may be because it covers some of the same ground as Chapter 13 in my book, The Income Factory: An Investor's Guide to Consistent Lifetime Returns (McGraw-Hill, 2020). It won't make anybody an expert, but is intended to give readers a basic framework on which to build a greater understanding going forward. This article is intended to be an introduction to CLOs. Nobody expects to be able to predict actual future results, but most investors would like to be able to understand the factors that influence those results, both positively and negatively. The goal is to help investors understand what they are buying and how to anticipate or project potential results under various economic and financial market scenarios. Many of these funds have made efforts to get up the curve in explaining the CLO asset class in a transparent way to retail investors. Which bet do you think is easier to win? That's the difference between credit and equity.)įor the past 30 years or so, CLOs have been available to institutional investors, but only in recent years have become accessible to retail investors, through a number of closed-end funds, including Eagle Point Credit ( ECC), Oxford Lane Capital ( OXLC), XAI Octagon Floating Rate & Alternative Income Term Trust ( XFLT ), OFS Credit Company ( OCCI ), Eagle Point Income ( EIC ) (for CLO debt only, not equity), and Ares Dynamic Credit Allocation ( ARDC ) (which owns CLO debt and equity for about 30% of its portfolio). (Hint: Think of betting on a horse to merely finish the race as opposed to betting on a horse to win, place or show. Collateralized Loan Obligations ("CLOs") are an ideal way to earn an equity return by making more predictable "credit bets" rather than more potentially volatile "equity bets," a concept explained here in more detail.
